Does connecting research and industry impose too many constraints on both parties? Paradoxically, at a time when young researchers must submit to the rule of “publish or perish,” when academic hyper-specialization seems the only possible way to go, industrial issues open up new territories and help researchers think outside the box. In short, industrial questions make research much more creative.

This movement towards innovation, based on a fruitful symbiosis of theory and practice, offers exciting prospects for all researchers. However, scientists must work in a place invigorated by constant exchanges with industrial partners – exchanges that allow for discoveries to be discussed, tested, refined and rewritten.

MINES ParisTech is such a place.
